(Dayton) – The third annual Pen To Paper Literary Symposium, hosted by Pen Of The Writer, will be held on Friday, October 6 and Saturday, October 7, 2006 at the Crowne Plaza, 33 East Fifth Street. Opening sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. each day.

“The Pen To Paper Literary Symposium, which has grown to a two-day event, provides a wealth of information on the art of writing and the business of managing an independent press,” says Valerie Coleman, symposium coordinator. “Attendees gain insight from mainstream and self-published authors, editors, agents and an attorney.”

Dan Poynter, a leading authority on self-publishing, has authored over 100 books and 600 magazine articles on the subject. He will open the event with a workshop on how to market and sell more books. Vickie Stringer, founder of Triple Crown Publications, will present on managing an independent press. Her company has published books for over 25 authors and has titles printed in several languages including Spanish and Japanese.

The symposium will also feature an Author Showcase on Friday, October 6, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. Admission to this portion of the event is free. Aspiring writers, book clubs, avid readers and the public are invited to enjoy hors d’oeuvres, an on-site bookstore, a licensed massage therapist from Christian Care Massage, and desserts by local business, My Sweet Cakes. Meet and greet local and national best-selling authors including Dayton native Vanessa Miller and Essence best-seller, Kendra Norman-Bellamy. The event will also feature a live performance by Dayton’s own Tonya Baker.
